Soft-vinyl figure in reduced size of one of the greatest of all animal sculptures created in Japanese history: “Puppy”

“Puppy,” a wooden sculpture created by Tankei in the Kamakura era, is an Important Cultural Property of Japan.

It is owned by the priest Myo’e of Kosan-ji Temple in Kyoto ( known also for their ancient cultural property, Chōjū-giga “Scrolls of Frolicking Animals” often credited as the first manga in the history of Japan). He is famous for having written a long dream journal 700 years before Freud.

Myo’e has mentioned his respect and love for dogs in his many writings, and this charming statue, in an actual size of a dog, was always keep by his side. The writer, Naoya Shiga has written that this is a statue that has the natural appeal to make one want to rub and stroke its lovable body.

This is a soft-vinyl figure of this very special masterpiece in a reduced size.
