IF YOU’RE A FRIEND OF COFFEE, COFFEE IS A FRIEND OF YOURS

From Iceland and Denmark  to across the North American Continent visiting over 20 States, a coffee travel documentary by one of the most influential coffee writers at present.  Join Liz in her journeys as she visits her friends’ kitchens and local cafes in pursuit of a cup of superior coffee, capturing the beautiful moments of the vibrant people and places of the specialty coffee community today.

Liz Clayton grew up on the shores of Lake Michigan, drinking coffee with her parents since a not-quite-medically-approved young age. She has resided in Chicago, Michigan and Toronto, and now works from her Brooklyn home as a writer and photographer, when not otherwise hitching rides with rock bands or flagging down ferryboats to travel around the world drinking coffee. This is her first book.

I don’t think we really go to coffee shops for the coffee. Good, fresh coffee can be had easily at home. I think we secretly go to coffee shops to connect with others and feel a sense of belonging, even if we’re sitting in a corner alone. Since my first magical coffeehouse experience when I was 14 at Cafe Espresso Royale in Ann Arbor, I’ve searched every city I’ve ever visited for that special cafe that would make that strange city suddenly feel like a second home.

Nice Coffee Time gave me nostalgia for cafes I’ve never been to (and a few I have.) Liz’s photos manage to transport you to those cafes and into baristas’ kitchens in a personal way, making you feel like you’re already friends with her friends and already cherish a favorite seat in each cafe. She has a gift for capturing the earnestness and camaraderie of our beautiful cafe subculture.
