Seattle's legendary bubble-gum pop
band, The Action Suits with world-famous alternative
cartoonist Peter Bagge as its drummer, released
four 7" in the fall of 1996. One of them
was initially going to be put out on SubPop, but
the story goes that when SubPop owner Jonathan
Poneman (who was being pressured by then-partner
Bruce Pavitt to put the record out) played the
tape of the sessions, he almost immediately ripped
it out of the cassette deck and flung it against
the wall. Needless to say, the boys got a real
kick out of that one.
They played a record release party at Seattle's
Lava Lounge in Dec., 1996. The Who's Who guest
list included members of the Posies, Mudhoney,
the Fall-Outs, Gas Huffer, Chixdiggit, SubPop's
Pavitt: practically the whole Seattle music scene.
. . . .
10 years have passed and now, an album we've all
been waiting for!
Previously released 7 songs plus 5 new songs with
a deluxe 16 page booklet.
The Action Suits
Formed in 1995 in Seattle, USA.
Original member: Eric Reynolds, Andy Schmidt,
and Al Columbia. Al leaves and Peter Bagge (author
of world famous comic "Hate") joins
as drummer. They played various gigs in and around
Seattle and came to be known "The King of
Pussy Rock." With the help of their friend,
Steve Fisk as producer?they release 4 vinyl 7"
in 1996. They lasted through various line-up changes
for a few years before ceasing to exist when Andy
moved away. Now Andy's back, and he, Eric and
Pete have temporarily reformed to record enough
new songs to fill out a full length CD. The CD,
titled "The Action Suits," will have
the 7 previously released songs plus 5 newly recorded
songs, with Fisk as producer.
Influenced by the Beatles, their sound is catchy
and melodious bubble gum pop.
It is also interesting that all three of the band
members are deeply associated with the alternative
comic scene.
Other former band members: Al Columbia (guitar,
singer, co-founder), Demian Johnston (guitar)
and Chris Jacobs (drums). |
